The GateWorld Cantina (or simply 'the Cantina') is the name given to the thread where all of my fanfics started, in 2007. What began life as a discussion thread in Off Topic of GateWorld Forum soon evolved into an RP thread and then, later, as a fan fiction thread. The Cantina is notorious on that forum for being one of the most popular threads and one of the largest, so much so that the original Cantina thread was forced shut by the Moderators because it's size was breaking the forum. That actually happened. Since then the Cantina's mythology has spiralled off into several spin-off threads, although the fanfic/RP elements were chanelled into what would become known as The GateWorld Cantina Chronicles. A year after this was created, the first Cantina original fanfic series Tales of the Laski was born.

So what is it?

A sci-fi fan fiction mostly carrying elements of Doctor Who, but with influences from other genres (Stargate, Bleach, Firefly, etc) too. It takes place in a parallel universe to that of Doctor Who, following a group of Time War survivors as they adjust to a universe without Gallifrey.

What do you need to know?

The Cantina is the name of the main starship in the stories, a prototype TARDIS vessel in the shape of a Firefly which can traverse space and time, captained by one of the last Time Lords Captain Mappalazarou. The pilot of the Cantina is the mysterious Cowpants, a human with an unrevealed background, but who is trusted by all of the crew. There is Susie, the pregnant human who met Mapp when the Cantina was disguised on Earth as a pub and she got a job there serving the bar. Even after learning the Cantina's true nature she opted to stay, unable to turn away a lifetime of adventuring. There is CJ, a telepathic human girl who was once a Soul Reaper for an ancient order, who acts as a bodyguard to Mapp and accompanies him on all adventures. She has a sword called Kazumi whom she considers her most faithful of companions. And then finally there is P90, another Time Lord, who joined the crew for the single purpose of keep a watchful eye over Mapp. P90 has his own TARDIS too, a typical Police Box styled type-40, which often remains in the Cantina's cargo bay. All of these crewmembers have been with the Cantina for a few years and so are more friends on top of their crew roles, although at some point during their lives P90 and Susie fell in love and married. Susie's child is P90's.

They're odd names.

Yes, but every crewmember is based on a username and personality from the GateWorld forum. That's why.

Them's the basics. Hope it's not too much info!
